Equality California Announces New Members of Boards of Directors, Equality Council |
Los Angeles – Equality California and Equality California Institute today announced the election of nine new members to their boards of directors and of five to the organizations’ Equality Council. The Equality Council is a joint advisory board formed to inform and develop strategic organizational policy and increase visibility of the organizations.
“The new members of the boards and Equality Council bring a broad range of skills and expertise and continue to strengthen the leadership of our organizations,” said Rick Zbur, executive director of Equality California. “Their skills and leadership will help us both within the LGBT community and beyond, as we advance civil rights and social justice for LGBT people and the diverse communities of which we are a part.” The newly elected members are: Equality California Board Juan Camacho (Los Angeles) – Juan Camacho is vice president of government affairs for Fox Entertainment Group (FEG). Jason Daniels (San Francisco) – Jason Daniels is an attorney at Latham & Watkins LLP where his practice focuses on antitrust and competition issues including merger clearance, complex litigation, government investigations and business counseling. Sue Dunlap (Los Angeles) – Sue Dunlap is CEO of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles and has nearly two decades of experience fighting for women’s health. Stephanie Graves (Los Angeles) – Stephanie Graves is president and CEO of Lee Andrews Group, a leading full service public affairs and strategy firm specializing in public outreach, government relations, strategic advising and communications. Mandy Lee (Sacramento) – Mandy Lee is a legislative advocate at Platinum Advisors, with years of government relations, campaign and public service experience. She served as board vice president of Equality California Institute, and will assume the office of board president of Equality California on January 1, 2017. Scott Malzahn (Los Angeles) – Scott Malzahn is a partner at Baker Marquart, where he focuses on business, tort and intellectual property disputes. He was a member of the trial team in Perry v. Schwarzenegger, which won a historic federal court decision striking down California’s ban on marriage for same-sex couples. Hillary Whittington – Hillary Whittington is a San Diego realtor, mother, and co-author of Raising Ryland, a moving account of her experiences parenting her transgender son. Suzy Jones (San Francisco) — Suzy Jones is founder and managing partner of DNAInk, a life sciences consulting firm, and serves as Commissioner of Juvenile Probation in San Francisco. She is a former member of the board of Equality California. Jessica Stebbins Bina (Los Angeles) – Jessica Stebbins Bina is a partner in the Litigation & Trial Department of Latham & Watkins LLP where she focuses on complex commercial litigation, including the entertainment and media industry. Equality Council Jason Anderson (San Diego) – Jason Anderson is president and CEO of CleanTECH San Diego, a trade organization focused on promoting the San Diego area as a global leader in the clean technology industry. Joan Buchanan (Los Angeles) – Joan Buchanan is a former California assemblymember and former Equality California boardmember. Kristen Kavanaugh (San Diego) – Kristen Kavanaugh is a former U.S. Marines captain and executive director of the Military Acceptance Project, an organization that promotes understanding, acceptance and equality for all service members, veterans and their families. Sam Leslie (Los Angeles) – Sam Leslie is a Chapter 7 trustee, as well as founder and managing partner of TL Vistas Capital Partners, GP – a Los Angeles-based private advisory firm. He is a former member of the board of Equality California Institute. Margret Raven (Palm Springs/Los Angeles) – Margret Raven is co-founder and president of Othar Raven Industries and co-owner of Rocket Video, Los Angeles. |
