According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10-24. Studies have also shown that LGBT youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their non-LGBT peers. This bill would require schools to adopt policies to give teachers the tools necessary to identify and combat teen suicide. The bill is authored by Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach) and co-sponsored by Equality California and The Trevor Project.
