SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Unified School District encourages California schools to support transgender students at a rally held on Friday afternoon.
On the heels of the Obama Administration’s guidance for schools, SFUSD officials, local transgender and gender conforming students and LGBTQ community leaders and allies joined the Transform California campaign – to call on all California schools to follow the lead of the SFUSD in promoting dignity, safety and respect for all students, including transgender young people.
Transform California is a campaign of Californians committed to promote respect, understanding and safety for the transgender community, and working to end violence against transgender people.
On Friday afternoon beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Mission High School in San Francisco a community members came together to celebrate a diverse coalition coming together.
Coalition members signed a blow-up of a statewide pledge that all were encouraged to sign – committing to create a more accepting California for the transgender community.
Leaders, allies, community participants all spoke at the event.
